Spotlight on Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (July 5 – 11, 2023)

This past week Palestinians carried out five attacks an IDF fighter was killed; The al-Ayash Battalion in Jenin, apparently affiliated with Hamas, claimed responsibility for firing two rockets . Five rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip at the Israeli communities near the border about an hour before the last IDF forces left Jenin. In response the Israeli Air Force attacked two Hamas terrorist targets. Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) launched summer camps for thousands of Gazan children and teenagers. A Freedom Flotilla Coalition boat, currently sailing between European ports, may try to reach the Gaza Strip. Following the IDF activity in Jenin, the Palestinian Authority (PA) is working to repair the damages and restore governance.

Spotlight on Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (June 28 – July 4, 2023)

This past week there were two terrorist attacks: a stabbing in Bnei Brak and a shooting at the settlement of Avnei Hefetz (southeast of Tulkarm). An attempted stabbing was prevented at the Shuafat Crossing (north of Jerusalem). On July 3, 2023, the Israeli security forces initiated a broad counterterrorism activity in Jenin and its refugee camp. The ministry of health in Ramallah reported ten Palestinians killed and 100 wounded. The IDF spokesman reported that nine of the ten Palestinians killed were involved in terrorist activities. Despite the activity in Jenin, the routine entrance of Palestinian workers into Israel from the Jenin and other Palestinian Authority (PA) areas continues. About 100,000 Muslims went to al-Aqsa mosque for the Eid al-Adha prayer. Hamas hung signs on the Temple Mount with pictures of the terrorists who shot and killed four Israeli civilians near the settlement of Eli; the police removed the signs. The Gaza Strip remains relatively quiet. Hamas exploited the Eid al-Adha holiday for three displays of various weapons held by its military-terrorist wing.

Spotlight on Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (June 21-27, 2023)

This past week terrorists carried out four attacks. The most lethal was a shooting at a restaurant and gas station near the settlement of Eli (north of Ramallah), in which four civilians were killed. Hamas military-terrorist operatives in northern Samaria launched a rocket at the Israeli communities over the border in the Gilboa region; the rocket misfired. Three terrorist operatives who had carried out many shooting attacks died in a targeted killing when their vehicle was attacked by an IDF UAV. Several Palestinians were killed in clashes with Israeli security forces in Jenin, Husan and the Askar refugee camp in Nablus. In the wake of the shooting attack at Eli, groups of Jewish settlers went to Palestinian villages and towns to avenge the deaths of the four victims. The Gaza Strip remained relatively quiet. A test rocket was fired towards the sea. Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) delegations ended their visits to Iran. Palestinian Authority (PA) Prime Minister Muhammad Shtayyeh arrived in Saudi Arabia.

Spotlight on Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (June 14-20, 2023)

This past week terrorists carried out two attacks: a shooting at the Reihan Crossing, one civilian and four soldiers wounded; and a vehicular ramming at the Rachel Crossing, two soldiers wounded. IDF forces continued counterterrorist activities, detaining suspected Palestinians and seizing weapons; Palestinians continued throwing rocks and Molotov cocktails at Israeli vehicles on the roads in Judea and Samaria. An Israeli adolescent planning a terrorist attack was apprehended. Three Palestinians were killed in Israeli security force activities. The Gaza Strip remained relatively quiet. A delegation of the heads of Hamas and the PIJ went to Iran for meetings with the upper echelons of the Iranian regime. According to Ziyad al-Nakhalah, PIJ secretary general, the two delegations held an "important meeting" with the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps' Qods Force command, and in the coming days other terrorist operatives are expected to arrive in Tehran to join them for additional meetings.

Spotlight on Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (June 7-13, 2023)

This past week there were two terrorist attacks in Judea and Samaria. An attempt near Ramallah to steal a soldier's weapon is being investigated as having been criminally motivated. Israeli security forces continued counterterrorism activities. The Palestinian Islamic Jihad's (PIJ) Jenin Battalion claimed it had intercepted an IDF drone near the Jenin refugee camp. The Gaza Strip remained relatively quiet. Egyptian General Intelligence talks in Cairo with Hamas and the PIJ ended. Contradictory reports were issued about the results. Mahmoud Abbas went to China for a three-day visit. .. Palestinians related to events and declarations in Israel, including the violence in Arab-Israeli society, a Likud proposal to divide the Temple Mount and the national security minister's proposal to stop financing dental care for Palestinian prisoners.

Spotlight on Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (May 31 – June 6, 2023)

An Egyptian border guard policeman infiltrated Israeli territory, and shot and killed two IDF fighters manning a guard post. Another fighter was killed during the pursuit of the shooter. The Palestinian terrorist organizations did not formally react to the attack, but the Palestinian media outlets issued a wide variety of joyous responses. This past week there were three terrorist attacks in Judea and Samaria. Israeli security forces continued counterterrorism activities in Judea and Samaria. Palestinians in Judea and Samaria continued throwing rocks and Molotov cocktails at Israeli vehicles. The Gaza Strip remained relatively quiet. Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) delegations are currently in Egypt. The Palestinian Authority (PA) leadership held meetings with foreign diplomats.
