News of Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (December 15-9, 2020)

In the Gaza Strip the number of active Covid-19 cases reported by the ministry of health is 8,723. However, the real number is apparently higher (for reasons including the low number of tests administered). In Judea and Samaria the rise in the number of active cases continues and currently stands at 14,696. This past week Palestinians rioted against the Israeli security forces in the village of al-Mughayir, located northeast of Ramallah. Mahmoud Abbas continues his visits to Arab states.

Spotlight on Iran (November 29, 2020 – December 13, 2020)

The recently appointed Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Faysal al-Miqdad, arrived for an official visit in Tehran. In light of growing criticism in Iran arguing that the volume of trade between Iran and Syria and Iraq is insufficient, the Iranian Organization for Trade Development published updated data concerning the volume of Iranian exports to Syria. The Iranian Ambassador to Iraq, Iraj Masjedi, confirmed in a television interview that the commander of the Qods Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), Esmail Qa’ani, recently visited Iraq and met with senior Iraqi officials. The Reuters news agency reported about Iran’s efforts to expands its influence in the religious sphere in Iraq, though the development of the Shia holy sites in Iraq.

Spotlight on Global Jihad (December 3-9, 2020)

Routine attacks continued in ISIS’s various provinces in Iraq, Syria and throughout Africa and Asia. Noteworthy examples: Iraq: ISIS operatives continued their attacks, in the form of activating IEDs, sniper fire, targeted killings, and attacks on the Iraqi security forces and their facilities. Syria: ISIS’s guerrilla attacks continued in the Euphrates Valley and in the desert region of eastern Syria, mainly in the form of activating IEDs, targeted killings, and firing light weapons at vehicles.

News of Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (December 2-8, 2020)

In the Gaza Strip, Judea and Samaria the number of active Covid-19 cases continues to rise sharply. As of December 8, 2020, there were 10,091 active cases in Gaza and 14,894 in Judea and Samaria. Those are the minimum numbers because the actual numbers seem to be far higher. The Hamas administration in the Gaza Strip has begun to signal a loss of control. This past week as well the Gaza Strip remained quiet. In Judea and Samaria, however, Palestinians rioted in the village of al-Mughayir, northeast of Ramallah, and in the Qalandia refugee camp.

Spotlight on Global Jihad (November 26- December 2, 2020)

In the Idlib region, incidents continued between the Syrian army and the rebel organizations, mainly Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS). In recent months, the desert region in eastern Syria has become the epicenter of ISIS’s activity in the Syria Province. In Iraq, ISIS’s intense activity in the various provinces continued, in the form of activating IEDs, sniper and light arms fire, firing mortar shells, targeted killings, and firing Katyusha rockets. ISIS’s other provinces in Africa and Asia continued their routine activity.

News of Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (November 25 – December 1, 2020)

In the Gaza Strip, as well as in Judea and Samaria the sharp rise in the number of active Covid-19 cases continues. As of December 1, 2020, there were 9,627 active cases in the Gaza Strip and 11,692 in Judea and Samaria. This past week the Gaza Strip was quiet. In Judea and Samaria a ramming attack was carried out at the al-Za'im roadblock, east of Jerusalem. Following the renewal of civilian and security coordination between the PA and Israel, the PA has been looking for creative ways to circumvent Israel's objection to the transfer of salaries to Palestinian terrorist prisoners and the families of shaheeds.
