News of Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (February 5 – 11, 2020)

This past week was characterized by increased violence from the Gaza Strip and an increase in popular terrorism attacks and violent clashes between Palestinians and Israeli security forces. This past week five rockets and two mortar shells were fired at Israel from the Gaza Strip. In Judea and Samaria there has been a rise in the number of popular terrorism attacks. In the diplomatic arena Mahmoud Abbas and senior Palestinian Authority figures continue their activities in various Arab and international forums to enlist opposition to the Trump plan. In the UN Security Council the Palestinians failed to enlist sufficient support for a resolution against the plan.

Spotlight on Iran (January 26, 2020 – February 9, 2020)

The issuance of President Trump’s “Deal of the Century,” aroused harsh criticism in Iran, expectedly.. During the ongoing battles between Syrian regime forces and its backers against the rebels in Idlib and western and southern Aleppo, an officer with the Qods Force was killed. Against the backdrop of political developments in Iraq and Lebanon, Iran welcomed the formation of a new government in Lebanon

Spotlight on Global Jihad (January 30 – February 5, 2020)

The Syrian army, with Russian air support, continued to advance towards Idlib. The Syrian army’s operation in an area where there are Turkish observation posts, and hundreds of thousands of refugees who fled from the battle zones (some towards the border with Turkey), have created friction on the ground and diplomatic tension between Turkey and Syria (which enjoys Russian support). News of Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (January 29 – February 4, 2020)

After the formal publication of the Trump plan the violence from the Gaza Strip became more severe, with 11 rockets and mortar shells fired at Israel and an increase in the launching of IED balloons. In response the IDF attacked a large number of targets in the Gaza Strip, most of them belonging to Hamas. At various locations in Judea and Samaria demonstrations were held to protest the Trump plan. The Palestinian Authority is preparing for extensive a diplomatic and media campaign in several arenas to combat the Trump plan.

Spotlight on Global Jihad (January 23-29, 2020)

The Syrian forces, with Russian air support, took the initiative once again and carried out attacks in the Idlib region this week. ISIS continued its activity in the Euphrates Valley and the Al-Hasakah region in eastern and northeastern Syria. This week, ISIS carried out intensive activity in the provinces outside its core countries, i.e., Iraq and Syria. The most prominent attacks were carried out in northern Sinai and Africa (mainly in northeastern Nigeria and in the northern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo). On January 27, 2020, ISIS’s new spokesman released an audiotape which included an unusual and explicit call on ISIS operatives in Sinai and Syria to attack Israeli communities

News of Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (January 22 – 28, 2020)

This past week as well acts of violence from the Gaza Strip continued: balloon clusters were launched into Israeli territory a rocket was launched into Israeli territory and a hand grenade or IED was thrown at an IDF force. The Palestinians rushed to reject Trump's "deal of the century" plan. The Palestinian media reported a series of planned protest activities in Judea, Samaria and the Gaza Strip
