Spotlight on Global Jihad (July 28 – August 3, 2022)

The main event of the week was the killing of Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri by the US in Afghanistan.This week there was a decline in the scope of ISIS’s activity around the globe. Most of the activity was concentrated in Africa. Ethiopia: An attack by the Al-Qaeda-affiliated Al-Shabaab organization near the border with Somalia. Over 100 Al-Shabaab operatives were killed.

Spotlight on Iran (July 21, 2022 – August 4, 2022)

The Syrian deputy foreign minister met in Tehran with the first deputy of the Iranian president. The Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC, paid a secret visit to Syria to discuss the future of the Iranian entrenchment in Syria. The report was not confirmed by any other sources. The Commander of the IRGC’s Qods Forcearrived for a visit to Baghdad. The Secretary General of Palestinian Islamic Jihad visited Tehran.

Spotlight on Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (July 27 – August 2, 2022)

Shots were fired from a passing car at an IDF post at the entrance to Nablus. The soldiers returned fire, wounding him. This past week the Israeli security forces continued their counterterrorism activities in Judea and Samaria. This week has witnessed an increase in ISIS’s activity in Syria and Iraq and a decrease in its activity in West Africa and Afghanistan. A report published by the United Nations states that Al-Qaeda will position itself in the long term as the most prominent terrorist organization in the world In the Sinai Peninsula: There has been an increase in ISIS’s activity against the Egyptian security forces. In Africa 14 policemen and three civilians were killed in an attack carried out by the Al-Shabaab organization in southern Ethiopia.

Spotlight on Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (July 20-26, 2022)

This past week an Israeli civilian was wounded in a stabbing attack on a bus in Jerusalem. An IDF fighter was the target of an attempted stabbing attack at the Tapuah Junction in Samaria. A stabbing attack was prevented in the Old City of Jerusalem. The Gaza Strip remains relatively quiet. The Qatari Committee distributed funds for July 2022 to 100,000 needy Gazan families. Mahmoud Abbas returned from visiting Romania, France. On his way back, he met in Jordan with King Abdallah. There was a sharp rise in the number of active cases in Judea, Samaria and the Gaza Strip; east Jerusalem remained stable.

Spotlight on Iran (July 7, 2022 – July 21, 2022)

On July 19, the presidents of Iran, Russia and Turkey held a summit in Tehran as part of the Astana Talks process concerning the settlement of the war in Syria. On July 10, Iranian President Raisi spoke on the phone with the Syrian President al-Assad and called for the implementation of agreements signed by both countries during the recent visit of the Syrian president to Tehran in May.Iraqi sources reported that the Commander of the Qods Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), Esmail Qa’ani, visited northern Iraq in early July, and met with representatives of the two major Kurdish parties to mediate between them and solve the disagreement between them concerning the nomination of the next Iraqi president.
