Spotlight on Global Jihad (January 25-31, 2018)

In Syria, the fighting continued in the various arenas. In the area of the Abu Ad-Duhur military airbase, clashes continued between the Syrian forces and operatives of the Headquarters for the Liberation of Al-Sham and ISIS (separately). In eastern Syria, ISIS continues to wage guerrilla warfare against the Kurdish-dominated SDF forces east of the Euphrates River, north of Albukamal. In Afghanistan, intensive terror and guerrilla activity continues on the part of ISIS's Khorasan Province and the Taliban.

News of Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (January 18 – 30, 2018)

This past week in Judea, Samaria and the Gaza Strip demonstrations and riots continued. One rocket was fired from the Gaza Strip into Israeli territory, the first in four weeks. In Samaria there were two notable incidents: the detention of a uniformed Palestinian who tried to enter the community of Itamar and the discovery of a chain of 11 IEDs north of Tulkarm. In the Gaza Strip the hardships of the population increase.

Spotlight on Global Jihad (January 18-24, 2018)

Turkey and the rebels sponsored by it launched a military operation against a Kurdish enclave in Ifrin, in northwestern Syria The operation is directed against the Kurdish force (YPG). This week, the Syrian forces took over the Abu al-Duhur military airbase south of Aleppo. In eastern Syria, ISIS continues to carry out intensive attacks against the Kurdish SDF forces east of the Euphrates River.

News of Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (January 17 – 23, 2018)

This past week terrorist events focused on three popular terrorism ["popular resistance"] attacks. The Fatah movement disseminated notices calling "to escalate the popular resistance" and "to turn the lives of the settlers into a living hell." Mahmoud Abbas gave two speeches this past week. The first was a speech with strong rhetoric at the al-Azhar conference The second, with softer rhetoric was given at a press conference in Brussels

An interview granted by Hassan Nasrallah intended to reinforce the deterrent message towards Israel by emphasizing Hezbollah’s military capabilities, especially high-precision missiles enabling Hezbollah  to damage essential infrastructure facilities in the next war

According to Nasrallah, the Israelis have said that these missiles could damage essential infrastructure facilities and cause a very serious disaster in Israel. Nasrallah noted that Hezbollah’s military capabilities created a “balance of terror” between it and Israel and deter Israel from starting a war.

Spotlight on Iran (January 7- January 21, 2018)

The intention of the United States to establish a military force, comprised of its allies the Syrian Democratic Forces. The fissures between Iran, Turkey and Russia over the settlement of the war in Syria are increasingly apparent. Iran is showing greater interest in Iraq, as the Iraqi political arena shifts gears ahead of the upcoming general elections, set to be held in May 2018.
