This past week events focused on two rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip targeting the southern Israeli town of Sderot and the western Negev According to Israeli security sources quoted by the media, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) was responsible for the rocket attacks. Yahya al-Sinwar, head of the Hamas political bureau in the Gaza Strip, gave a belligerent speech in which he described at length the military capabilities of Hamas and the other terrorist organizations in the Gaza Strip. The two most recent return marches (September 27 and October 4, 2019) were characterized by a high level of violence. On September 25, 2019, a Palestinian boy stabbed and wounded a young Israeli woman waiting for a bus near Modi'in. On September 26, 2019, a Palestinian boy tried to stab Border Policemen at the Chain Gate in the Old City of Jerusalem. The Israeli security forces apprehended the terrorist squad suspected of carrying out the IED attack at the Danny Spring, northwest of Ramallah, which killed an Israeli girl and wounded her father and brother. This week, the return march was characterized by a relatively high level of violence. Many IEDs, grenades and Molotov cocktails were thrown at IDF forces. Palestinians attempted to damage the security fence and even crossed into Israeli territory. During the week, five rockets were launched at Israel in two separate incidents. Prime Minister Netanyahu’s statement that if he is elected his administration will apply Israeli sovereignty over the Jordan Valley has led to a wave of condemnations among the Palestinians. The Palestinian Authority spokesmen threatened that if Israel carried out its intention, all agreements between it and Israel would be canceled. Read more...
