The ITIC's annual study indicates that in 2018 there were two main trends prominent in Palestinian violence and terrorism: in the Gaza Strip there was a sharp increase in the level of violence and terrorism, after about three and a half years of relative quiet after Operation Protective Edge.

At the "return march" in the Gaza Strip on Friday, February 8, 2019, there was a relatively high level of violence. In ITIC assessment, behind the rise in the level of violence lies the failure of the most recent round of talks in Cairo and the differences of opinion between Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) regarding the desirable dose of violence. In Judea and Samaria terrorist events focused on the stabbing attack that killed a young Israeli woman near the Biblical Zoo in Jerusalem. The Palestinian Authority (PA) media ignored the murder.

News of Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (January 23 – 29, 2019)

This past week there was a relatively high level of controlled violence during the Friday "return march. "Before the violence there were three incidents that increased tension between Hamas and Israel: one was Palestinian Islamic Jihad sniper fire at IDF forces, carried out under the cover of a gathering of Palestinians near the fence. Hamas spokesmen and Hamas-affiliated media continue threatening to raise the level of violence from the Gaza Strip against Israel. On January 29, 2019, Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah announced the resignation of his government to Palestinian chairman Mahmoud Abbas.

News of Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (January 16 – 22, 2019)

This past week there was a relatively low level of violence at the "return march" (about 14,000 participants). This past week a stabbing attack was prevented near an IDF check post south of Nablus. On February 3, 2019, an American law will go into effect making any recipient of American aid subject to the jurisdiction of its courts.

News of Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (January 9 – 15, 2019)

This past week there was a high level of violence during the "return march." In response to the violence, Israeli Air Force aircraft attacked a Hamas post On January 10, 2019, an Egyptian delegation visited the Gaza Strip. In the northern arena Israel announced the end of Operation Northern Shield, carried out to locate and neutralize Hezbollah tunnels penetrating into Israeli territory.
