Since the ceasefire (May 6, 2019) that ended the most recent round of escalation, there has been a gradual increase in the launching of incendiary and IED balloons from the Gaza Strip. During the past two weeks it has become intensive and systematic, and caused scores of fires near the Israeli communities near the Gaza Strip border.

On May 24, 2019, the return march was held in the Gaza Strip with a relatively small number of participants (about 4,000 Palestinians). About three weeks after the end of the recent round of escalation, incendiary and IED balloons have been launched into Israeli territory almost on a daily basis (with an awareness of their greater potential for causing fires in the current very hot weather). Following the strong rejection of the Palestinian Authority (PA) of the economic workshop planned for Bahrain, senior PA figures began a diplomatic and media campaign to clarify the Palestinian position and prevent the participation of representatives from the Middle East and around the globe.

Economy and Politics: The American-initiated economic workshop in Bahrain as a test case for a possible agreement in the Gaza Strip

The United States recently announced an economic workshop would be held in Manama, Bahrain (July 25-26, 2019). The concept motivating the workshop is that investments and economic initiatives will lead to prosperity for the Palestinian population in Judea, Samaria and the Gaza Strip, and thus it will be possible to promote an Israeli-Palestinian peace agreement (Trump's "deal of the century").

Strong Palestinian Authority rejection of the upcoming American economic workshop in Bahrain

The United States and Bahrain recently announced an economic workshop in Manama, the capital of Bahrain, on June 25 and 26, 2019. The "Peace to Prosperity" meeting will constitute the overture of the American program for peace between Israel and the Palestinians, known as the "deal of the century." Expected attendees are treasury ministers and businessmen from the Middle East and around the globe.

On May 15, 2019, Nakba Day events were held in the Gaza Strip with the format of the weekly return marches. Despite the understandings reached at the end of the most recent round of escalation, senior Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) figures continue using belligerent rhetoric. The Israel security forces recently solved a series of shooting attacks in the Ramallah region.
