This past week there a Palestinian tried to carry out a stabbing attack at the Shaked Crossing. Israeli security forces continued counterterrorism activities, focusing on Nablus and Tulkarm. In preparation for Israel's Jerusalem Day and the Flag March on May 18, 2023, Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) warned Israel not to cross "red lines" in al-Aqsa mosque, threatening that the next battle would be larger and not confined to the Gaza Strip. Between May 9 and 13, 2023, Israel waged Operation Shield and Arrow in the Gaza Strip, which ended with an Egyptian-brokered ceasefire. On May 15, 2023, Palestinians marked Nakba Day with various events in the Gaza Strip and Ramallah.

Operation Shield and Arrow in the Gaza Strip Initial Reactions as of May 9, 4 p.m.

In the early morning hours of May 9, 2023, three of the highest-ranking operatives of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) died in targeted killings in the Gaza Strip. Ten other people, among them members of the operatives' families, also died in the attacks IDF planes also attacked PIJ military-terrorist targets. The Palestinian terrorist organizations reacted angrily to the attack. Although Israel expressly stated the operation was not directed against Hamas, most of the organizations claimed the response would be united and they would all participate. There were also angry reactions in the Arab-Muslim world.

Spotlight on Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (May 3 – 9, 2023)

This past week there was a stabbing attack near Hawwara in which an IDF soldier was wounded. Two other stabbing attacks, one near Hawwara and the other in the Old City of Jerusalem, were prevented. Israeli security forces' counterterrorism activities focused on Nablus and Tulkarm. In the early morning hours of May 9, 2023, Israel began Operation Shield and Arrow with the targeted killing of three senior PIJ terrorist operatives in the Gaza Strip. The smuggling of loaded handguns and ammunition was prevented at the Kerem Shalom Crossing. Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi met with members of the leaderships of the various Palestinian terrorist organizations during a visit to Damascus.

Spotlight on Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (April 19-23, 2023)

During the past five days Palestinians carried out one terrorist attack. No casualties were reported but the bus was damaged. The Israeli security forces continued intensive counterterrorism activities in Judea and Samaria, focusing on Nablus and Jenin The number of rock- and Molotov cocktail-throwing attacks decreased significantly. About 120,000 worshippers participated in the morning holiday prayer on the Temple Mount. Then they chanted slogans in support of Hamas and the "resistance". The Gaza Strip remained relatively calm. Mahmoud Abbas paid a visit to Saudi Arabia, where he met with Crown Prince A Hamas delegation visited Saudi Arabia at the same time. Apparently the delegation did not meet with representatives of the Saudi Arabian government.

Spotlight on Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (April 3-18, 2023)

During the past two weeks Palestinians carried out nine terrorist attacks in Judea, Samaria and inside Israeli. A mother and her two daughters and a tourist from Italy were killed. The Israeli security forces continued their counterterrorism activities,. The main arenas were Jericho, Nablus and Jenin.On the night of the Passover Seder and in the following days dozens of rockets were fired at Israeli territory, atypically from three different arenas. The pretext for the rocket fire was the riot at al-Aqsa mosque. Isma'il Haniyeh, head of Hamas' political bureau, paid a visit to Lebanon, and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) leader Ziyad al-Nakhalah paid a visit to Iraq.. The Palestinians scored a political achievement in the UN, and on May 15 the General Assembly will mark Nakba Day.

Spotlight on Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (March 29 – April 3, 2023)

This past week Palestinian terrorists carried out two attacks in Judea and Samaria. There was an incident in the Old City of Jerusalem which may have been a terrorist attack. The Israeli security forces continued counterterrorism activities, two armed Palestinians were killed in Nablus in an exchange of fire with Israeli forces. The second Friday of Ramadan attracted about 260,000 Muslim worshippers to the Temple Mount. The Palestinians were critical of the long waits at the entrances to Jerusalem. The Gaza Strip remained relatively calm. Land Day passed without particular incident.
