This past week a 122mm Grad rocket hit an open area near the southern Israeli city of Beersheba. l.Riyadh al-Maliki, Palestinian foreign minister, said that Mahmoud Abbas would present the Palestinian appeal to join the United Nations on September 20, 2011.

This past week the rocket and mortar shell fire into Israeli territory from the Gaza Strip continued. The Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman said at a press conference that the Palestinian Authority was planning acts of violence and bloodshed for the September events.

Their statements, reflecting the impasse of the Hamas-Fatah reconciliation, are probably meant to prevent Mahmoud Abbas from making concessions to the United States and Israel.

Sporadic rocket fire from the Gaza Strip into Israel continued this past week – two rocket hits were identified. Hamas and the other terrorist organizations exploited the relative quiet in the Gaza Strip to hold extensive training exercises. The Palestinian Authority continued its diplomatic preparations for its move in the United Nations this coming September.

Cairo recently hosted a conference in support of the “resistance” (i.e., terrorism).

It was attended by Palestinian and Shi’ite terrorist organizations (Hamas and Hezbollah), and representatives from Arab and Muslim countries. There were indications that the Muslim Brotherhood and Islamist groups attempted to use the popular Arab protests to support terrorism.
