This past week rocket and mortar shells were fired sporadically from the Gaza Strip into the western Negev. The Palestinian Authority maintained its refusal to re-launch negotiations, lowered its expectations and focused its efforts on trying to convince the Europeans to exert pressure on Israel.

On January 4, 2010, Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas met with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak in Sharm el-Sheikh. President Mubarak updated Mahmoud Abbas on his December 29, 2009 conversation with Israeli prime minister Benyamin Netanyahu.
