In the two years since Operation Cast Lead there has been a significant reduction in the extent and severity of terrorist attacks carried out by Hamas, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad and the other Palestinian terrorist organizations operating in the Gaza Strip. That created a new security situation, and improvement on that before Operation Cast Lead.

This past week one rocket hit was identified in Israeli territory. In addition, an IDF force killed three terrorist operatives who were placing an IED near the Gaza Strip security fence. The United States vetoed a Palestinian proposal in the UN Security Council to condemn the Israeli settlements in Judea and Samaria.

Sami Shihab, a Hezbollah operative who escaped from an Egyptian prison, participated in a Hezbollah rally in Beirut.

His network infiltrated operatives and weapons into the Gaza Strip and planned attacks against tourist sites in Egypt. His public appearance was a Hezbollah defiance of Egypt and might indicate Hezbollah-Iran self-confidence.
