On July 15, 2022, shots were fired at an Israeli vehicle which entered Nablus without authorizationThe Israeli security forces continued their activities in Judea and Samaria to detain Palestinians suspected of terrorist activities and to confiscate illegal weapons.On July 16, 2022, four rockets and machine guns were fired at Israel from the Gaza Strip. No casualties or damage were reported. In response Israeli Air Force aircraft attacked Hamas terrorist targets. During his visit to the Middle East, President Joe Biden met with Mahmoud Abbas in Bethlehem. According to Palestinian commentators, the visit was a disappointment, because with the exception of the declaration of financial aid, the visit did not touch on political matters.

Spotlight on Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (July 6 – 12, 2022)

On July 5, 2022, shots were fired from a passing vehicle at an IDF force manning a roadblock at the entrance to Homesh, northwest of Nablus. The Israeli security forces continued their counterterrorism activities in Judea and Samaria. A Palestinian was killed in an activity near Jenin. The Palestinian Authority (PA) continued making preparations for Joe Biden's visit. Senior PA figures are pessimistic about the possibility of a positive outcome. The Palestinians were disappointed by the results of independent investigation sponsored by the United States into the death of al-Jazeera reporter Shireen Abu Akleh.

The Jenin Battalion: a non-aligned organization of terrorists operating against the Israeli security forces

The Jenin Battalion is a network of armed terrorist operatives in the Jenin refugee camp. Apparently the Jenin Battalion serves as a new model for networks of Palestinians terrorist operatives in Judea and Samaria wanting to attack Israeli security forces. Moreover, the PIJ's military-terrorist wing is interested in exporting the model to other cities in Judea and Samaria. The founding of the Nablus, Tulkarm and Bethlehem Battalions was recently announced, and in the future they may establish their own joint operations room.

Spotlight on Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (June 29 – July 5, 2022)

On June 28, 2022, a Palestinian attempted a stabbing attack at one of the gates to the Old City of Jerusalem. The Israeli security forces continued their counterterrorism activities in Judea and Samaria; two Palestinians were killed. The Gaza Strip was relatively quiet. In the northern arena, Israel intercepted three Hezbollah UAVs at a distance of several dozen miles from the Karish oil rig. The coronavirus: the ministry of health in Ramallah reported that the number of active cases in Judea, Samaria and the Gaza Strip continues rising. The Ramallah district has the greatest number of active cases.

News of Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (June 22-28, 2022)

This past week the Israeli security forces continued counterterrorism activity in Judea and Samaria.  The Gaza Strip was relatively quiet. . A Hamas delegation led by Isma'il Haniyeh visited Lebanon and met with Lebanese government officials, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and representatives of the Palestinian organizations. The Palestinian Authority (PA) is preparing for the visit of American President Joe Biden. Another wave of the coronavirus has begun, with a rise in the number of cases in Judea, Samaria and the Gaza Strip.

The military-terrorist wing of Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) held military exercise in the Gaza Strip to convey threats to Israel.

On June 20, 2022, the Jerusalem Brigades, the military-terrorist wing of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) held a large exercise in the Gaza Strip. According to PIJ sources, the exercise mainly focused on firing rockets and artillery at targets at sea. Apparently the military-terrorist wings of the organizations in the Gaza Strip are keeping a low profile and maintaining relative quiet to prevent another round of combat with Israel at this time. The exercises, with their displays of force and military capabilities, are another way of threatening Israel and part of the so-called "balance of deterrence," including threats from Ibrahim al-Madhoun to attack Israel's offshore oil rig (see below).
