After a number of tense days in the Gaza Strip,. At 16:16 on Friday, August 5, 2022, the IDF killed Tayseer al-Jaabari, commander of the Jerusalem Brigades, the PIJ's military-terrorist wing in the northern Gaza Strip. A few hours after the targeted killing of al-Jaabari, the PIJ launched a massive barrage of rockets and mortar shells at Israel. Most of the attacks were directed at the Israeli cities and smaller communities on August 7, 2022, the morning of Tisha B'Avthe Jerusalem area as well.

Shots were fired from a passing car at an IDF post at the entrance to Nablus. The soldiers returned fire, wounding him. This past week the Israeli security forces continued their counterterrorism activities in Judea and Samaria. Fatah summer campers in the Nablus district undergo military training

The Nablus branch of Fatah recently held summer camps for children and adolescents in the village of Bayta, south of the city. Videos of camp activities posted to the Palestinian social media showed the youth, some of them armed with rifles, undergoing military training. Apparently, the Fatah camp in Bayta was held because of the increasing participation of Fatah and its military-terrorist wing in the recent violent clashes between the Israeli security forces and Palestinians. Bayta was apparently not randomly chosen as the venue for the summer camps.

Spotlight on Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (July 20-26, 2022)

This past week an Israeli civilian was wounded in a stabbing attack on a bus in Jerusalem. An IDF fighter was the target of an attempted stabbing attack at the Tapuah Junction in Samaria. A stabbing attack was prevented in the Old City of Jerusalem. The Gaza Strip remains relatively quiet. The Qatari Committee distributed funds for July 2022 to 100,000 needy Gazan families. Mahmoud Abbas returned from visiting Romania, France. On his way back, he met in Jordan with King Abdallah. There was a sharp rise in the number of active cases in Judea, Samaria and the Gaza Strip; east Jerusalem remained stable.

Most of the Palestinians killed in Judea and Samaria since January 1, 2022, who died during Israeli security force counterterrorism activities were terrorist operatives

In 2022 the Israeli security forces continued been carrying out intensive counterterrorism activities in Judea and Samaria. According to ITIC records, Israeli counterterrorism activities and clashes with Palestinians, carried out from January 1, 2022, to July 14, 2022, led to the deaths of 49 Palestinians, a relatively high number compared to previous years. Of the 49 Palestinians killed, 33 (67%) belonged to one of the Palestinian terrorist organizations. Sixteen (33%) Palestinians who were killed had no organizational affiliation.
