The Gaza Strip: On August 16, 2021, a rocket was fired from the Gaza Strip at the southern Israeli city of Sderot. The Palestinian Authority (PA): Israel has begun work to improve the accessibility of the Cave of the Patriarchs in Hebron for the physically challenged by installing an elevator. The coronavirus: There has been an increase in the number of active cases of the coronavirus, especially the delta variant, in Judea, Samaria and the Gaza Strip. Judea and Samaria: This past week Palestinians clashed with the Israeli security forces at a number of locations in Judea and Samaria. Israel announced a series of measures to ease daily life for the Palestinians in Judea, Samaria and the Gaza Strip. The Gaza Strip: Attempts continue to conclude an arrangement with Israel and to rebuild the Gaza Strip. The Palestinian Authority (PA): The PA is facing a financial crisis, to the point where it cannot promise to be able to pay its employees' salaries in the coming months. Sheikh Jarrah: The Palestinian families living in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of east Jerusalem rejected a compromise offered by Israel's Supreme Court. Deliberations will continue next week. The Gaza Strip: On July 25, 2021, the Gazan incendiary balloon-launching units renewed their activities, causing three fires in the Israeli communities near the Gaza Strip. UN international commission of inquiry: On July 22, 2021, the UN Human Rights Council announced the formation of the international commission of inquiry, established "to investigate violations of international humanitarian law and all alleged violations and abuses of international human rights law leading up to and since 13 April 2021, and all underlying root causes of recurrent tensions.
