Recently rocket fire has increased, in all probability prompted by Hamas’s desire to force Israel into accepting the lull in the fighting on Hamas terms.

The Egyptian initiative for a lull in the fighting in the Gaza Strip has gone into high gear. An agreement on principle was reached between Egypt and Hamas regarding a six-month lull, “Gaza first,” during which Egypt would work to extend it to the West Bank.
