In June 2010 the Moroccan security forces exposed a global jihad network planning to carry out terrorist attacks against Moroccan figures, including Jews. The network was headed by a Gazan, a former Palestinian Islamic Jihad operative influenced by Al-Qaeda.

News of Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict(August 11-17, 2010)

This past week two Qassam rockets and two mortar shells were fired into the western Negev. The various terrorist organizations continued their attempts to attack IDF forces. Various pro-Palestinian and pro-Hamas networks and organizations in the Arab countries and the West continue expressing their intentions to send flotillas to the Gaza Strip.

The Egyptian media strongly attacked Hamas and Iran because of the rocket fire, calling Hamas an “Iranian agent” and demanding it be punished.

Iran expressed support of the Lebanese government’s firm stance over the incident between the Lebanese army and the IDF on August 3.

Iran emphasized the role of Hezbollah and Hamas as the “defense lines” of the Islamic revolution, avoiding rhetoric that may encourage Hezbollah to react and lead to escalation.

A network of former Fatah operatives in the Gaza Strip (Al-Ahrar) supported by Hamas announced the establishment of a military wing.

Flags of the US and Israel were set on fire during the announcement ceremonies, while a representative of the Turkish organization IHH congratulated the participants by a video call.

News of Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (August 3-10, 2010)

This past week there was quiet in the western Negev and along the Israeli-Lebanese border. Articles in Egypt’s establishment press strongly attacked Hamas, accusing it of responsibility for the rocket fire at Eilat. According to media reports the Lebanese women’s ship Mar Iam was supposed to set sail from Lebanon to Cyprus on August 8.
