The Fight Against the Spread of COVID-19 in the Gaza Strip (Updated to June 14, 2020)

Last week two more cases of COVID-19 were detected in the Gaza Strip. The number remains low and Hamas' handling of preventing the spread of the disease has so far been successful. Given the situation, the easing of restrictions has been trending upwards, while preventive measures are still strictly enforced.

The Nujaba Movement (Movement of the Noble Ones), an Iraqi Shi'ite militia handled by the Iranian Qods Force, recently carried out a display of propaganda in the Gaza Strip. Its objective was to glorify Iran and Iranian support for the Palestinians and the "resistance axis."

Exchange of clarifications between the ICC and the Palestinian Authority following Mahmoud Abbas’s statement on the PA considering itself absolved from all agreements and understandings

On June 5, 2020, the Palestinian Authority provided its observations on the International Criminal Court’s request with respect to Mahmoud Abbas’s statement that the PA is absolved from any agreements or understandings with the American and Israeli governments. The Palestinian Authority’s position is that the statement does not have any bearing whatsoever on the judicial issue awaiting the decision of the Pre-Trial Chamber nor did it have any intention to do so. The PA also notes that Mahmoud Abbas’s statement was not made as part of the formal procedures of the court.

This document is aimed at summarizing the contents of the Palestinian Authority's schoolbooks and teachers' guides, as far as the conflict with Israel is concerned, from 2013 up to this day. It is based on the examination of close to 400 schoolbooks published between 2013-2020 and over a hundred of teachers' guides published mostly in 2018 (and see below a list of the Center's publications that deal with the findings of the examined Palestinian schoolbooks).

News of Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (June 3 –9, 2020)

The Gaza Strip remains relatively quiet. In Judea and Samaria a stabbing attack was prevented at the Hashmonaim Crossing (near Modi'in). Throughout Judea and Samaria stones and Molotov cocktails were thrown at civilian Israeli vehicles on the roads. The Palestinian Authority (PA) continues its intensive activity to recruit support to prevent Israel from annexing territory in Judea and Samaria. In the meantime PA institutions are trying to find solutions for the problems that will be created by the PA decision to end security and civilian coordination with Israel.

The Fight Against COVID-19 in the Palestinian Authority (PA) (Updated to June 8, 2020)

During the past week (since June 2, 2020) 14 additional cases of COVID-19 were detected in Judea and Samaria, and there are now 38 active cases. The geographical distribution according to districts is the following: 17 cases in Hebron, 16 in Qalqilya, four in Jenin and one in a village near Jerusalem. There was no change in the number of active cases in the neighborhoods of east Jerusalem.
