In the Idlib region in northern Syria, the ceasefire is still surviving but the intensity and severity of the incidents have recently been increasing. In Iraq, ISIS is continuing its intensive activity, taking advantage of the COVID-19 pandemic and the reduced activity of the US-led International Coalition. The most noteworthy incident in ISIS’s provinces abroad was a suicide bombing attack in the Nangarhar Province in eastern Afghanistan.

Funding Terrorism: The al-Qaeda-affiliated Salafi Army of the Nation in Jerusalem, which operates in the Gaza Strip, recently renewed its Bitcoin fund-raising campaign

The Salafi Army of the Nation in Jerusalem, a jihadi organization affiliated with Al-Qaeda operating in the Gaza Strip, recently renewed a campaign to raise funds in Bitcoin (for information about the organization, see the Appendix). According to the organization, donations will provide organization fighters with weapons and military equipment. At the bottom of the announcement are the address of a virtual wallet for inserting Bitcoin donations, an email address and a Telegram account (Telegram, May 8, 2020).

In Iraq, ISIS’s high-intensity activity continues, taking advantage of the spread of COVID-19 and the reduction in the activity of the US-led International Coalition. ISIS’s other provinces in Africa and Asia continued their “routine” attacks, in the shadow of the COVID-19 crisis.

Spotlight on Global Jihad (April 23-30, 2020)

In the Idlib region in Syria, the ceasefire was generally maintained, although the intensity of the incidents again increased during the past week. In Iraq, ISIS has continued its high-intensity activity, taking advantage of the spread of COVID-19 (2,003 patients to date). Nigeria continued to dominate the terrorist and guerrilla activity of ISIS’s other provinces in Africa and Asia. In ISIS’s Yemen Province, a war of hearts and minds is being waged between ISIS and Al-Qaeda, concurrently with the fighting on the ground.

In the Idlib region, the ceasefire was generally maintained. In Iraq, ISIS has increased its activity significantly, taking advantage of the spread of COVID-19 (1,584 patients to date) and the reduction in the scope of activity of the US-led International Coalition.

Spotlight on Global Jihad (April 2-6, 2020)

In the Idlib region, the ceasefire continued, with occasional exchanges of artillery fire. In the background is the rival sides’ fear of an outbreak of COVID-19 in the Idlib region. In the Euphrates Valley in Syria, ISIS’s intensive activity continued, despite the threat of COVID-19. In the Iraqi arena as well, ISIS’s intensive activity continues. In Afghanistan, ISIS suffered a severe blow with the capture of the Emir (leader) of the Khorasan Province along with senior commanders of the organization (according to a report issued by the Afghan National Intelligence Directorate).
