Spotlight on Global Jihad (August 4-10, 2021)


This week, there was an increase in the scope of ISIS activity around the globe. The epicenter of ISIS activity was Afghanistan. In The Sinai Peninsula: The Egyptian army and the Sinai Tribal Union carried out searches in the central Sinai Peninsula, killing four ISIS operatives and capturing others. In Syria: ISIS attacked Syrian soldiers and fighters of the forces supporting it in the desert region after several weeks of inactivity in the region.

The killing of Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri – reactions and implications

On August 1, 2022, US President Joe Biden announced that the CIA had killed Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri on July 31, 2022, by a UAV airstrike on the balcony of a house where he was staying with his family in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan. Zawahiri, aged 71 when he was killed, had been Al-Qaeda leader since June 16, 2011, after succeeding Osama bin Laden . For Al-Qaeda, the killing of its leader mainly dealt a blow to the morale of its rank-and-file since Zawahiri, one of Al-Qaeda’s founders, had been a most outstanding symbol of the organization

Spotlight on Global Jihad (July 28 – August 3, 2022)

The main event of the week was the killing of Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri by the US in Afghanistan.This week there was a decline in the scope of ISIS’s activity around the globe. Most of the activity was concentrated in Africa. Ethiopia: An attack by the Al-Qaeda-affiliated Al-Shabaab organization near the border with Somalia. Over 100 Al-Shabaab operatives were killed.

Spotlight on Global Jihad (July 21-27, 2022)

This week has witnessed an increase in ISIS’s activity in Syria and Iraq and a decrease in its activity in West Africa and Afghanistan. A report published by the United Nations states that Al-Qaeda will position itself in the long term as the most prominent terrorist organization in the world In the Sinai Peninsula: There has been an increase in ISIS’s activity against the Egyptian security forces. In Africa 14 policemen and three civilians were killed in an attack carried out by the Al-Shabaab organization in southern Ethiopia.

Spotlight on Global Jihad (July 14-20, 2022)

There was a decline in the scope of ISIS’s activity around the globe this week. Africa continued to be the epicenter of its activity. In Sinai Peninsula Six ISIS operatives were killed in a joint operation by the Egyptian army and the Sinai Tribal Union. Africa: ISIS continued its attacks against military and villages in the north of the country. Following US President Joe Biden’s visit to Israel and Saudi Arabia, ISIS’s Al-Naba weekly published statements made previously by ISIS Spokesman Abu Umar al-Muhajir, attacking Arab countries for signing agreements with Israel.

Break-in to Kuje Prison in Nigeria: another ISIS activity to liberate prisoners

On the night of July 5, 2022, ISIS operatives attacked Kuje Prison, southwest of Abuja, the capital of Nigeria. Most of the prisoners were liberated in the break-in stage Breaking into prisons to liberate its own prisoners is a known ISIS modus operandi. The break-in to the prison has demonstrated that ISIS’s West Africa Province is capable of carrying out complex actions .
