Social Media Attacks on pro-Israel Accounts During Operation “Guardian of the Walls” Malaysian Cyber Warfare

Recently, during the “Guardian of the Walls” operation in Gaza (May 10th – May 21st), there was a massive attack on mainstream social media and messaging platforms against Israelis and pro-Israelis. Those attacks led to aggressive spamming of pro-Israeli content and also to suspension or blocking of accounts. From an extensive web research, we found that the source of these social media attacks comes mostly from the Malaysian arena, organized and led by a network of Malaysian anti-Israel organizations and groups, with tremendous exposure online of hundreds of thousands of views and followers

The tape, which lasts about 38 minutes, is entitled “You are the sublime ones if you believe.” It mainly contains words of encouragement to ISIS’s fighters around the world, calls on them to intensify their activity and asks them to choose more substantial targets for their attacks (Telegram, June 22, 2021).

An analysis of the names of Gazans killed during Operation Guardian of the Walls indicates that about half of them were terrorist operatives

During Operation Guardian of the Walls, May 10-21, 2021, the Palestinian terrorist organizations in the Gaza Strip launched 4,360 rockets at Israeli cities and towns in a systematic attempt to harm as many civilians as possible. Twelve Israelis, two of them children, were killed by rocket fire and one IDF soldier was killed by an anti-tank missile. Six hundred and eighty of the rockets fell inside the Gaza Strip, killing at least 21 people, 10 men, two women and nine children: among the ten men, one was Hamas operative, one Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) operative and one Fatah member.

Another Gazan boy, who according to the New York Times list died in Operation Guardian of the Walls, was found to be an operative in Hamas’ military-terrorist wing. The Times’ list also included the names of eight children who were killed by terrorist organization rocket misfire.

On May 28, 2021, the front page of the New York Times published pictures of children and adolescents killed in the Gaza Strip and Israel during Operation Guardian of the Walls with the headline, "They Were Just Children." The Times listed the names of 67 children under the age of 17 who were killed, two in Israel and 65 in the Gaza Strip.

An examination of the names of the fatalities in the IDF airstrikes during the first two days of Operation Guardian of the Walls reveals that most of them were terrorist operatives

The following is a preliminary summary of the findings of the examination of the names of the Palestinians who were killed in IDF airstrikes in the Gaza Strip during the first two days (May 10-12, 2021 at 12:00) of Operation Guardian of the Walls. The ITIC examined 74 names of fatalities reported by Palestinian sources. Sixteen of them were killed during an unsuccessful launch of rockets at Israel. It is evident from the examination that of the 58 remaining fatalities, at least 42 (about two-thirds) were terrorist operatives, according to the following distribution: 31 Hamas operatives, 3 PIJ operatives, and 8 Fatah members.

Escalation from the Gaza Strip – Operation Guardian of the Walls – Summary

After 11 days of hostilities, Operation Guardian of the Walls ended with a ceasefire at 0200 on May 21, 2021. The terrorist organizations in the Gaza Strip continued firing rockets until shortly before the deadline, and since the ceasefire there has been a tense quiet in the Gaza Strip. Hamas spokesman Taher al-Nunu and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) leader Ziyad al-Nakhalah said they would adhere to the ceasefire as long as Israel did.
