Spotlight on Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (October 26-31, 2022)

This past week Palestinians carried out five terrorist attacks: a double vehicular ramming attack in the Jordan Valley, in which five; a shooting attack near Kiryat Arba, in which one civilian was killed; a shooting attack near Bani Na'im,; a shooting attack in Hawwara (near Nablus; and a stabbing attack near al-Funduq (east of Qalqilya. The Israeli security forces continued counterterrorism activities in Judea and Samaria. Four operatives of the Lion's Den terrorist network, including a commander, surrendered to the Palestinian Authority (PA) security forces. The Gaza Strip was relatively quiet.

Spotlight on Global Jihad (October 20-26, 2022)

ISIS’s relatively moderate activity around the world continues. On the other hand, the Al-Qaeda-affiliated Al-Shabaab Organization in Somalia continues its intensive activity against the Somali government. The Iraqi forces’ counterterrorism activity against ISIS continues, alongside sporadic attacks carried out by ISIS in the country. Nigeria: It has been reported that ISIS’s West Africa Province and Boko Haram set up camps in Zamfara State, in northwestern Nigeria. This may indicate the expansion of those organizations to other states in Nigeria.

Spotlight on Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (October 20-25, 2022)

This past week Palestinians carried out two terrorist attacks: a stabbing attack near French Hill in Jerusalem, and a shooting attack at the entrance to Ma'aleh Adumim. The shooting attack was carried out by the same Palestinian terrorist who carried out the attack in Shuafat in which an IDF soldier was killed. The Israeli security forces focused their counterterrorism activities on Nablus, primarily on the Lion's Den terrorist network, The Gaza Strip remained relatively quiet. The Saudi Arabians released a Hamas' representative who had been arrested and sentenced with several dozen other Hamas operatives.

Spotlight on Terrorism : Hezbollah, Lebanon and Syria (September 19 – October 25, 2022)

The agreement delineating the maritime border between Israel and Lebanon is expected to be signed on October 27, 2022. Hezbollah regards itself having been responsible for the signing of the agreement with conditions convenient for Lebanon and without particular benefit for Israel, and it can be expected to praise and publicize the achievement for some time to come. The Lebanese have shown considerable support for the Palestinians during the recent events in Judea and Samaria, and there have been calls to continue and escalate the attacks on Israel.

Spotlight on Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (October 4-19, 2022)

During the past two weeks tensions remained high in Judea and Samaria. Palestinians carried out four shooting attacks, killing two IDF soldiers, The Israeli security forces continued intensive counterterrorism activities, primarily in Jenin and Nablus. A relatively large number of Palestinians were killed during counterterrorism activities and clashes with the security forces. The Gaza Strip remained relatively quiet. A Hamas delegation to Damascus met with the Syrian president, part of renewing Hamas-Syria relations. Mahmoud Abbas visited Kazakhstan where he met with Russian President Putin.

Spotlight on Global Jihad (October 7-19, 2022)

Over the past two weeks, ISIS has concentrated its activity in and Afghanistan. The downtrend in the scope of its activity around the world the Afghan Ministry of the Interior compound in Kabul, resulting in the death of 25 people and dozens of wounded. The Egyptian security forces continued their counterterrorism efforts. Syria: ISIS continued to operate against the Kurdish forces and the Syrian army. A total of 19 Syrian soldiers were killed in the explosion of an IED near a military bus on the outskirts of Damascus.
