In Syria, US forces carried out a targeted killing of ISIS’s commander in Syria and his deputy, near the Syrian-Turkish border. In Nigeria, ISIS operatives broke into Kuje Prison southwest of the capital Abuja, liberating hundreds of inmates.

Spotlight on Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (July 6 – 12, 2022)

On July 5, 2022, shots were fired from a passing vehicle at an IDF force manning a roadblock at the entrance to Homesh, northwest of Nablus. The Israeli security forces continued their counterterrorism activities in Judea and Samaria. A Palestinian was killed in an activity near Jenin. The Palestinian Authority (PA) continued making preparations for Joe Biden's visit. Senior PA figures are pessimistic about the possibility of a positive outcome. The Palestinians were disappointed by the results of independent investigation sponsored by the United States into the death of al-Jazeera reporter Shireen Abu Akleh.

Senior Hezbollah figures and the Hezbollah-affiliated media continued to justify the July 2, 2022, launching of drones to the area of the Karish gas rig. To mark the 40th anniversary of Hezbollah's founding, tourist routes were opened along sites of important events in the organization's history. Hezbollah's civilian activity in south Lebanon continued., A Syrian army commander was killed in an aerial attack in the Golan Heights village.

Spotlight on Iran (June 23, 2022 – July 7, 2022)

The Iranian minister of foreign affairs arrived for a visit in Syria and met with senior regime officials, chief among them President Assad. Another Iranian oil tanker arrived at Syria’s shores. The Iraqi prime minister arrived for a visit in Tehran as part of his effort to resume the Iranian-Saudi rapprochement talks.

This week, ISIS’s activity focused on Syria, Sinai, Afghanistan and Africa. The Sinai Peninsula: The Egyptian army and the Sinai Tribal Union continued to attack ISIS’s infrastructure in western Rafah and the Bir al-Abd region.

Spotlight on Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (June 29 – July 5, 2022)

On June 28, 2022, a Palestinian attempted a stabbing attack at one of the gates to the Old City of Jerusalem. The Israeli security forces continued their counterterrorism activities in Judea and Samaria; two Palestinians were killed. The Gaza Strip was relatively quiet. In the northern arena, Israel intercepted three Hezbollah UAVs at a distance of several dozen miles from the Karish oil rig. The coronavirus: the ministry of health in Ramallah reported that the number of active cases in Judea, Samaria and the Gaza Strip continues rising. The Ramallah district has the greatest number of active cases.
