News of Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (October 18 –24, 2017)

This past week was relatively quiet. A vehicular attack was apparently prevented in central of Israel and a stabbing attack was prevented at the Gush Etzion Junction. The Gaza Strip remained quiet. Implementing the Hamas-Fatah reconciliation continued, although senior Hamas figures asserted their refusal to discuss the future of the military-terrorist wing and its weapons. A Hamas delegation headed by Saleh al-'Arouri, deputy head of Hamas' political bureau, visited Iran.

News of Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (September 19 – 26, 2017)

This past week there was a shooting attack near Har Adar, an Israeli community west of Jerusalem. The terrorist killed three Israelis and seriously wounded another. Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinian Authority (PA) have not condemned the attack so far. A delegation of senior Hamas figures headed by Musa Abu Marzouq visited Moscow and met with Russian officials.

The Temple Mount crisis has waned but popular terrorism continues: The Israel Security Agency reported the recent exposure of the transfer of funds by courier from Hamas in Turkey to the Gaza Strip and from there to Hebron. This past week King Abdallah of Jordan paid an official visit to the Muqata'a in Ramallah.

After two weeks, the Temple Mount crisis came to an end. Before the afternoon prayers on July 27, 2017, a large number of flag-waving Palestinians broke into the Temple Mount compound and clashed with Israeli security forces. About 50 Palestinians were injured.

The shooting attack carried out by three Israeli Arabs, in which two Border Policemen were killed, turned into a crisis on the Temple Mount, threatening to spin out of control. The events inspired several Palestinians to carry out terrorist attacks as a response to the so-called “desecration” of al-Aqsa mosque.
