Iran did not officially comment on the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) strikes in Syria on January 21. Prior to the latest confrontation between Iran and Israel, senior Iranian officials reiterated that Iran will continue to maintain its military presence in Syria. Iran Following the Latest Confrontation with Israel in the Syrian Arena

On January 21, 2019, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) bombed targets of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) and its foreign-operations wing, the Qods Force. Among the targets hit, according to a statement by IDF spokesperson, were weapons depots and military sites (one of them inside the Damascus International Airport), an Iranian intelligence site and a training camp operated by Iran. In addition, the IDF bombed Syrian air defense batteries that fired at IDF jets.

Spotlight on Iran (December 30, 2018 – January 13, 2019)

Against the backdrop of President Trump’s decision to withdraw U.S. troops from Syria, Iran welcomed the announcement by the spokesman of the Syrian Arab Army claiming that the Syrian military entered the city of Manbij, currently under control of the U.S.-backed Kurds, and raised the Syrian flag there. Meanwhile, the former Iranian Minister of Defense, Ahmad Vahidi, declared that whether the U.S. remains or withdraws from Syria, its decision does not matter, since it is clear that the American have been defeated in Syria.

Senior Palestinian Islamic Jihad and Hamas figures praise Iran’s military support and threaten that in the next war the rocket fire from the Gaza Strip will reach all the cities in Israel and the “resistance axis” will coordinate its actions on all fronts.

The Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) leadership recently visited Iran and Lebanon to meet with the Iranian leadership and Hezbollah secretary general Hassan Nasrallah. They also gave interviews where they the deep bond between Iran and the "Palestinian resistance."
