A senior Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) officer was killed in Syria. Iran condemned the American strikes carried out against targets belonging to pro-Iranian militias in Deir Ezzor, eastern Syria. A delegation made up of give IRGC commanders arrived in late August to Syria . The Commander of the IRGC, declared that is insufficient and ought to be bolstered, alongside the ground fighting capability against Israel. Spotlight on Iran (August 4, 2022 – August 18, 2022)

Iranian leadership condemned the latest Israeli operation in Gaza (“Breaking Dawn,”) and stressed the Islamic Republic’s continued support for the Palestinian “resistance” and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) organization. The senior Hamas leader, Khaled Mashal, claimed in an interview to al-Jazeera channel that Hamas’ departure from Syria following the civil war in country has not affected the relationship of the movement with Iran, and that this relationship was never broken. He clarified, however, that the relationship with Tehran does not affect Hamas’ decisions, which are taken independently.

The Syrian deputy foreign minister met in Tehran with the first deputy of the Iranian president. The Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC, paid a secret visit to Syria to discuss the future of the Iranian entrenchment in Syria. The report was not confirmed by any other sources. The Commander of the IRGC’s Qods Forcearrived for a visit to Baghdad. The Secretary General of Palestinian Islamic Jihad visited Tehran.

Spotlight on Iran (July 7, 2022 – July 21, 2022)

On July 19, the presidents of Iran, Russia and Turkey held a summit in Tehran as part of the Astana Talks process concerning the settlement of the war in Syria. On July 10, Iranian President Raisi spoke on the phone with the Syrian President al-Assad and called for the implementation of agreements signed by both countries during the recent visit of the Syrian president to Tehran in May.Iraqi sources reported that the Commander of the Qods Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), Esmail Qa’ani, visited northern Iraq in early July, and met with representatives of the two major Kurdish parties to mediate between them and solve the disagreement between them concerning the nomination of the next Iraqi president.

The Iranian minister of foreign affairs arrived for a visit in Syria and met with senior regime officials, chief among them President Assad. Another Iranian oil tanker arrived at Syria’s shores. The Iraqi prime minister arrived for a visit in Tehran as part of his effort to resume the Iranian-Saudi rapprochement talks.

Spotlight on Iran (June 9, 2022 – June 23, 2022)

Following the strike on the International Airport of Damascus , the Iranian minister of foreign affairs spoke to his Syrian counterpart and condemned the strike, which has been attributed to Israel. On June 13, two Iranian oil tankers carrying about two million barrels of oil docked at a port along the Syrian coast. The Iraqi minister of foreign affairs voiced extraordinary criticism of Iran’s meddling in Iraq’s domestic affairs.
