During June 2026, the hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah continued until Israel's decision to cease fire on June 20; The ceasefire in the Gaza Strip remained in effect, as the IDF continued eliminating terrorist operatives, most of whom had been involved in the atrocities of the October 7, 2023 invasion and massacre; targeted killings of terrorist operatives continued. Israeli security forces carried out extensive counterterrorism operations in Judea and Samaria; The Houthis and Iran simultaneously attacked Israel with missiles; IDF forces clashed with armed operatives in south Syria.

Yahya Sinwar’s Plan for the Invasion of Israel, as Detailed in a Hamas Document

In October 2025, the Intelligence and Terrorism Information Center published a Hamas document brought back from the Gaza Strip by the IDF, handwritten by Yahya al-Sinwar, head of the Hamas political bureau in the Gaza Strip. Dated August 24, 2022, it contained precise instructions for the opening of the "decisive campaign" to destroy Israel, from the deception phase in the weeks preceding the attack through the invasion of Israeli territory and instructions for documenting the atrocities committed against civilians and soldiers, as occurred during the October 7, 2023 attack and massacre; Another document written by al-Sinwar on the same day presented the plan to invade Israel in greater detail, including the rapid seizure of 25 junctions and more than 220 communities, kibbutzim, "small and large" cities and military installations. To that end he estimated that a force of ten thousand "well-trained fighters" would be required; The document included instructions to "expel the settlers," primarily women and children, and to take men between the ages of 17 and 50 hostage; The propaganda to sway international public opinion is noted in the captured document through instructions to represent the attack as a "humanitarian" event to implement the Palestinian "right of return" narrative with the slogan, "We are returning to our homes"; Al-Sinwar said the attack would surprise the "enemy" but he was prepared for Israel to use every means at its disposal to respond, including a "nuclear bomb." He added that would be "a battle of life or death"; The document included an outline for a slide show entitled "The Liberation of Southern Palestine," although the slides themselves were not found; The document gives a detailed description of an organized operational plan, inclusive to the level of the operatives in the squads responsible for breaching the border fence, a plan which had been devised more than a year before it was actually carried out in the October 7, 2023 invasion and massacre; The two documents also reflect al-Sinwar's high confidence in Hamas' ability to lead the campaign independently during its opening stages, although he hoped the surprise created by the attack would encourage other fronts to join the fighting.

Spotlight on Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (June 30-July 7, 2026)

Hamas announced the dissolution of its government emergency committee in preparation for transferring administrative responsibilities to the national committee for the administration of Gaza. However, it continued to enforce physical control by executing alleged collaborators and displaying flags at the funerals of eliminated terrorist operatives. Members of the Board of Peace said they would judge actions rather than declarations; IDF forces continued operations within the Yellow Line area and other parts of the Gaza Strip, destroying terrorist facilities and assets and eliminating Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorist operatives who posed a threat to the forces, many of whom participated in the atrocities of the October 7, 2023 invasion and massacre and who had held Israeli hostages; Hamas claimed the objective of Israel's statements about the movement's military buildup was to justify the continuation of the strikes; Hamas and the other terrorist organizations operating in the Gaza Strip submitted their response to the proposed amendments to the roadmap for implementing the ceasefire agreement, which included agreement to the concentration, collection and storage of weapons instead of disarmament, removal of references to the dismantling of infrastructure, including tunnels, and postponement of discussion on the issue of small arms; Hamas protested the position of the Board of Peace and the United States, according to which UNRWA would have no role in the "new Gaza"; Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad sent delegations to the funeral of Iranian leader Ali Khamenei.

The disclosure of the names of fallen military operatives by Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad confirms the Amit Institute’s Research findings on the double roles of “journalists” in the Gaza Strip

Since the beginning of 2026 the military wings of Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) have regularly reported the names of hundreds of commanders and operatives killed during the war in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023, including after the ceasefire which went into effect in October 2025; The publication of the names provides official organizational confirmation that individuals who during the war were allegedly "journalists" and "media personnel" in fact belonged to the military media units of the military wings of Hamas and the PIJ or to other units within the other organizations; The Intelligence and Terrorism Information Center (now the Amit Intelligence and Terrorism Research Institute) published two comprehensive studies, one in February 2024 and the other December 2025, examining the identities of 266 Palestinians killed in the Gaza Strip who were alleged to have been journalists and media personnel. The findings, based on open-source material, showed that about 60% belonged to the military wings or were affiliated with terrorist organizations, primarily Hamas and the PIJ; The current study shows that commanders and operatives whose names have been disclosed by Hamas and the PIJ in recent months had already appeared in the Information Center's special studies as individuals claimed to have been media personnel but who in fact unquestionably belonged to the military wings of the two organizations.

Spotlight on Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (June 23-29, 2026)

IDF forces continued operations within the Yellow Line and in other areas of the Gaza Strip, eliminating Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad, including operatives involved in the atrocities of the October 7, 2023 terrorist invasion and massacre. Hamas military infrastructure rebuilt after the ceasefire was also destroyed; The International Committee for the Protection of Journalists is reviewing its database of journalists killed during the war in the Gaza Strip after it became known that some of them were affiliated with Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad; Hamas continued to accuse Board of Peace representative Nikolay Mladenov of promoting Israeli positions and undermining the negotiations for implementing the ceasefire. It reiterated its claim of being prepared to transfer control of the Gaza Strip to the national administration committee; The organizers of the so-called "June 26 Revolution" against Hamas rule said the attempt to hold mass demonstrations had failed because of Hamas intimidation, but promised to continue their campaign; A senior Hamas figure held talks with the Iranian foreign minister; Israeli security forces continued extensive counterterrorism operations in Judea and Samaria; The Palestinian Authority wants to enlist the Vatican, the UN and Arab and Western countries against what it claims is "the deliberate targeting of Christian institutions in Jerusalem."

IDF forces eliminated Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorists who posed an immediate threat, including individuals involved in the October 7, 2023 attack and massacre and a Hamas terrorist operative who also worked as a photographer for the Al Jazeera network; Hamas accused Board of Peace representative Nikolay Mladenov of promoting positions close to Israel's. However, it noted that agreements had been reached during talks with the mediators in Cairo which would allow the Palestinian technocrat committee to enter the Gaza Strip and oversee the collection of weapons along with an Israeli withdrawal; The Hamas administration in the Gaza Strip, senior UN officials and aid organizations reiterated warnings of a humanitarian crisis in the Strip; Calls to protest Hamas rule on June 26, 2026 have generated discussion in the Gaza Strip, accompanied by accusations that Israel and anti-Hamas militias are behind the initiative; Hamas renewed the elections for the head of the movement's political bureau while increasing security measures and casting secret ballots; Turkish involvement in the Palestinian arena: the IHH continues to expand its activities in the Gaza Strip, and a Hamas network directing terrorist attacks in Israel from Judea and Samaria was exposed in Turkey; Israeli security forces continued counterterrorism operations in Judea and Samaria; The Palestinian Authority is in contact with the American administration through Saudi Arabian mediation.
