At the beginning of October there was a stabbing attack that killed an Israeli civilian from Elkana. This past week two rockets were fired. On October 12, 2017, a reconciliation agreement was signed by Fatah and Hamas with the stated goal of "ending the Palestinian division."

Popular Terrorism: The Current Situation

On October 26, 2017, about two years after the outbreak of the wave of popular terrorism (early October, 2015), there was a shooting attack in the community of Har Adar (northwest of Jerusalem). It was a terrorist attack carried out as part of the strategy the Palestinians call "popular resistance."

Spotlight on Iran (October 1-15, 2017)

Turkish-Iranian coordination is increasingly invigorated following the independence referendum in the Kurdish region in northern Iraq. Senior Iranian officials rebuked the reports about the intension of the U.S. administration to designate the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) as a foreign terrorist organization. Iran continues to be involved in the campaign against the last pockets of ISIS resistance in Iraq. Bolstering of the economic cooperation between Iran, Iraq, Syria and Lebanon continues apace.

News of Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (September 27– October 2, 2017)

This past week no significant terrorist attacks were carried out in Judea and Samaria. The Israel-Gaza Strip border was quiet. On October 2, 2017, a delegation of members of the Palestinian national consensus government headed by Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah entered the Gaza Strip through the Erez crossing.

News of Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (September 19 – 26, 2017)

This past week there was a shooting attack near Har Adar, an Israeli community west of Jerusalem. The terrorist killed three Israelis and seriously wounded another. Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinian Authority (PA) have not condemned the attack so far. A delegation of senior Hamas figures headed by Musa Abu Marzouq visited Moscow and met with Russian officials.

News of Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (September 13 – 18, 2017)

This past week no significant terrorist attacks were carried out in Judea, Samaria and the Gaza Strip. The focus of political events was Hamas' announcement that it was prepared to dissolve the administrative committee it established in the Gaza Strip to replace the Palestinian Authority (PA). In ITIC assessment, the difficult economic situation in the Gaza Strip and the economic sanctions Mahmoud Abbas imposed on the Gaza Strip were behind the Hamas announcement.
