Ayman al-Sharawneh, a terrorist released in the Gilad Shalit prisoner exchange deal, was deported to the Gaza Strip after a hunger strike. In a TV interview he said that he returned to terrorist activity in the Hamas military wing. Terrorists freed in prisoner exchange deals often return to terrorism in violation of their release terms.

This past week the quiet along Israel’s southern border continued. In Judea and Samaria violent confrontations and friction continued, peaking on June 7 (Naksa Day), The new Palestinian Authority (PA) government headed by Rami Hamdallah was sworn in on June 6 by Mahmoud Abbas.

This past week one rocket hit was identified in Israeli territory, landing in the western Negev. Violent confrontations and friction continued in Judea and and Samaria. Following the abduction of seven Egyptian soldiers and policemen, the Egyptian security forces took steps on the ground making contact difficult between the Sinai Peninsula and the Gaza Strip.
