News of Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (January 3 – 9, 2018)

This past week there was an increase in the trend towards fewer participants in demonstrations and riots in Judea, Samaria and east Jerusalem. A rocket and several mortar shells were fired at Israel. Israeli Air Force aircraft attacked "a key terrorist facility" in the Gaza Strip. The Israel Security Agency revealed that an indictment was recently handed down for a Palestinian student from Hebron who was recruited by Iranian intelligence during a visit to a relative in South Africa.

In recent months there has been a rapprochement between Iran and Hamas, after approximately three years of difficulties caused by Hamas' reservations regarding the Syrian regime and the removal of the movement's offices from Syria.

Qassem Soleimani, commander of the IRGC’s Qods Force, issued a video in which children from the Gaza Strip thank Iran for its support of the Gaza Strip, part of the Hamas-Iran rapprochement

The Iranian TV channel al-Ayam recently posted a video of Qassem Soleimani, commander of the IRGC's Qods Force, to its Instagram account. Soleimani plays a key role in Iranian subversion in the Middle East and in Iranian support for the Palestinian terrorist organizations. The video was in Arabic with Persian subtitles. It showed Palestinian children from the Gaza Strip standing near the Israeli border waving Palestinian flags and pictures of Qassem Soleimani.

Spotlight on Iran (December 24, 2017 – January 7, 2018)

The protests that erupted in Iran in late December brought to the surface, once again, the internal public criticism surrounding the immense investments of the Iranian regime outside of its borders. Following the failure of the referendum initiative in Iraqi Kurdistan, Iran is moving to restore normality in its activities in northern Iraq. In the Palestinian arena, Iran is increasing its support for Hamas.

After a short respite, rocket and mortar shell fire from the Gaza Strip into Israeli territory was renewed. This past week demonstrations and riots continued in Judea, Samaria, east Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip to protest the declaration made by Donald Trump that the United States recognizes Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. This past week it was reported that in November a terrorist squad, handled by a Hamas operative in the Gaza Strip, was exposed.
