News of Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (December 5 – December 11, 2018)

Events this past week focused on the shooting attack at the Ofra Junction (northeast of Ramallah). In addition, this past week there were two vehicular attacks. On Friday, December 4, 2018, the 37th "return march" was held along the Israel-Gaza Strip border. Operation Northern Shield continues exposing and neutralizing Hezbollah tunnels that penetrate into Israeli territory from Lebanon.

News of Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (November 28 – December 4, 2018)

On December 4, 2018, Operation Northern Shield began along Israel's border with Lebanon. Its objective is to expose and neutralize Hezbollah terrorist attack tunnels penetrating from Lebanon into Israeli territory. This past week a "return march" and a mini-flotilla were held along the Gaza-Israeli border without exceptional violence towards the IDF. The United States has proposed a UN resolution condemning Hamas and other terrorist organizations for rocket fire at Israel, and using resources meant for the population for their military buildup.

Senior Hamas figure presents Hamas’ concept of the arrangement as implemented after the most recent round of escalation.

On December 3, 2018, during the most recent mini-flotilla and its accompanying demonstration in the northern Gaza Strip, Fathi Hamad, a member of Hamas' political bureau, was interviewed by al-Jazeera. In the interview he clarified Hamas' concept of the arrangement with Israel, as implemented after the latest round of escalation (November 12-13 2018).

Hamas continues military training for students in government high schools in the Gaza Strip to prepare them to join its ranks

During 2018 Hamas has continued providing military training for students in government high schools in the Gaza Strip, with the "return marches" and ongoing tension with Israel in the background. The training is part of the al-Futuwwa ("youth/heroism") program, which prepares them to join the ranks of Hamas (and other terrorist organizations) in the future.

Spotlight on Iran (November 18 – December 2, 2018)

The 32nd annual Islamic Unity Conference was held in Tehran and attended by Iranian senior officials and representatives from about 100 countries. According to Syrian sources cited in the newspaper al-Sharq al-Awsat, Iran recently stepped up its efforts to recruit Syrian citizens into pro-Iranian militias operating in northeastern Syria. Iran continues to exert effort to cement its economic foothold in Iraq.

The American State Department offers a reward for information about senior Hamas figure Saleh al-‘Arouri

The American State Department recently offered a reward of up to $5 million for information that would lead to the identification or location of Saleh al-'Arouri, deputy head of Hamas' political bureau, and two senior Hezbollah military operatives.
