Hamas and the other terrorist organizations exploited the relative quiet in the Gaza Strip to hold extensive training exercises. The Palestinian Authority continued its diplomatic preparations for its move in the United Nations this coming September.

On July 19 Israeli naval commandos took control of the French boat Dignité/Al Karama,. This past week there was an increase in rockets fired from the Gaza Strip into the western Negev. The Palestinian Authority continued promoting its September appeal to the United Nations for recognition of a Palestinian state.
