Spike in the Number of COVID-19 Infections in the Palestinian Authority Territories: Overview and Analysis (Updated to June 22, 2020)

The number of reported active cases of COVID-19 in Judea and Samaria spiked and now stands at 458 (compared with 48 active cases last week). The total overall number of COVID-19 infections since the outbreak of the pandemic in Judea and Samaria stands at 843 (compared with 420 last week). In the wake of the spike in the number of infections over the past few days the PA decided to enforce preventive measures more strictly. The spike in infections is focused in the Hebron district, which has been the epicenter of the spread of the disease for most of the time.

News of Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (June 10 – 16, 2020)

Israel's southern border was tense this past week after several months of relative quiet due to the Gaza Strip's fight against COVID-19. Judea and Samaria have been relatively quiet after the number of popular terrorism attacks peaked during May 2020 (seven significant attacks). The Palestinian Authority (PA) continues its diplomatic and media campaign in the international arena to prevent Israel from implementing its intention to annex territories in Judea and Samaria.

News of Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (June 3 –9, 2020)

The Gaza Strip remains relatively quiet. In Judea and Samaria a stabbing attack was prevented at the Hashmonaim Crossing (near Modi'in). Throughout Judea and Samaria stones and Molotov cocktails were thrown at civilian Israeli vehicles on the roads. The Palestinian Authority (PA) continues its intensive activity to recruit support to prevent Israel from annexing territory in Judea and Samaria. In the meantime PA institutions are trying to find solutions for the problems that will be created by the PA decision to end security and civilian coordination with Israel.

The Fight Against COVID-19 in the Palestinian Authority (PA) (Updated to June 8, 2020)

During the past week (since June 2, 2020) 14 additional cases of COVID-19 were detected in Judea and Samaria, and there are now 38 active cases. The geographical distribution according to districts is the following: 17 cases in Hebron, 16 in Qalqilya, four in Jenin and one in a village near Jerusalem. There was no change in the number of active cases in the neighborhoods of east Jerusalem.

News of Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (May 27 – June 2, 2020)

In Judea and Samaria the numbers of popular terrorism attacks and attempted attacks are trending upwards. The Gaza Strip remains relatively quiet. This past week Hamas’ restraint force prevented a number of young Palestinians from infiltrating into Israeli territory. Following a speech by Mahmoud Abbas on May 19, 2020, the Palestinian Authority (PA) began a campaign to prevent Israel from annexing territories in Judea and Samaria.

The Fight Against COVID-19 in the Palestinian Authority (PA) (Updated to June 1, 2020)

This past week 20 new COVID-19 cases were detected in the PA territories, most of them in the Qalqilya district. The PA ministry of health began conducting sample testing in the various districts to verify if they are corona-free. In view in the decline in the rate of infection the PA decided to relax some restrictions in districts where there were no COVID-19 cases, while taking the necessary precautions. On May 31, 2020, prayers were renewed on the Temple Mount.
