News of Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (July 18-24, 2012)

This past week terrorist events focused on the Hezbollah bombing of a bus full of Israeli tourists in Burgas, Bulgaria. This past week there was also a terrorist attack along the Israeli-Egyptian border. Shots were fired at a bus carrying IDF soldiers in the region of Ein Netafim. There were no casualties.

This past week events focused on the killing of an IDF soldier by a Palestinian terrorist operative who infiltrated into Israeli territory from the central Gaza. three rocket hits were identified in the western Negev. The Israeli Air Force struck a number of terrorist targets in the Gaza Strip.

This past week no rocket hits were identified in Israel’s south. A new Palestinian Authority government was appointed, headed by Salam Fayyad. Nakba Day, passed without exceptional incident.

Rocket fire from the Gaza Strip targeting Israel’s south continues. On April 17 the Israeli prime minister met with a delegation of Palestinians who brought him a letter from Mahmoud Abbas. The Palestinians have begun preparations for the May 15 marking of Nakba Day.
