This past week in Judea and Samaria rallies, marches and demonstrations were held to mark the centenary of the Balfour Declaration. The IDF announced it was holding the bodies of the five Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) operatives who had been trapped when the IDF blew up a terrorist tunnel.

News of Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (October 25 – 31, 2017)

This past week events focused on Israel's blowing up a Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) tunnel extending from the Gaza Strip into Israeli territory. Blowing up the tunnel is a clear illustration of the key problem facing Mahmoud Abbas in implementing the internal Palestinian reconciliation. On November 2, 2017, the centenary of the Balfour Declaration will be celebrated.

News of Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (October 18 –24, 2017)

This past week was relatively quiet. A vehicular attack was apparently prevented in central of Israel and a stabbing attack was prevented at the Gush Etzion Junction. The Gaza Strip remained quiet. Implementing the Hamas-Fatah reconciliation continued, although senior Hamas figures asserted their refusal to discuss the future of the military-terrorist wing and its weapons. A Hamas delegation headed by Saleh al-'Arouri, deputy head of Hamas' political bureau, visited Iran.

At the beginning of October there was a stabbing attack that killed an Israeli civilian from Elkana. This past week two rockets were fired. On October 12, 2017, a reconciliation agreement was signed by Fatah and Hamas with the stated goal of "ending the Palestinian division."

Popular Terrorism: The Current Situation

On October 26, 2017, about two years after the outbreak of the wave of popular terrorism (early October, 2015), there was a shooting attack in the community of Har Adar (northwest of Jerusalem). It was a terrorist attack carried out as part of the strategy the Palestinians call "popular resistance."

News of Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (September 27– October 2, 2017)

This past week no significant terrorist attacks were carried out in Judea and Samaria. The Israel-Gaza Strip border was quiet. On October 2, 2017, a delegation of members of the Palestinian national consensus government headed by Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah entered the Gaza Strip through the Erez crossing.
