News of Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (April 28 – May 5, 2020)

The spread of COVID-19 in Judea, Samaria and the Gaza Strip has been moderate and is currently still under the control of the Palestinian Authority (PA) and Hamas. This past week events focused on the stabbing attack carried out near a shopping mall in Kfar Sava, in which a woman was slightly wounded. In the political arena, the PA began diplomatic and media activity after reports that the future new Israeli government intends to annex parts of Judea and Samaria.

The Fight Against COVID-19 in the Palestinian Authority (Updated to May 4, 2020)

According to reports from the Palestinian Authority (PA), the number of cases of COVID-19 in Judea and Samaria continues increasing at a moderate rate, with 336 reported cases, up from 309 from last week. The rate of spread in the east Jerusalem neighborhoods has also slowed. The return of about 48,000 Palestinian workers to Israel began on May 3, 2020, most of them construction workers.

Fight against the spread of COVID-19 in Lebanon: The medical crisis is waning while the political crisis is flaring up

To date, 737 people have been infected with COVID-19 in Lebanon, 25 of whom have died (updated to May 3, 2020). Most of the patients are in Christian and Sunni areas. In Shiite areas, where Hezbollah is dominant, a relatively low number of confirmed and suspected cases have been reported. According to reports by the Lebanese Ministry of Health, the infection rate is relatively low and the handling of the virus is under control.

News of Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (April 22 – 27, 2020)

This past week events focused on the combined vehicular-stabbing attack at a roadblock southeast of Jerusalem and on the continuing threats (so far not carried out) from the Gaza Strip to renew the launching of IED and incendiary balloons. Apparently the spread of coronavirus in Judea, Samaria and the Gaza Strip is still under control. In March 2020 the Israeli security forces exposed a Hamas network whose operatives were planning terrorist attacks in Jerusalem and the Ramallah region.

The fight against the spread of COVID-19 in the Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon

On February 1, 2020, the first case of COVID-19 infection was detected in Lebanon. On March 10, 2020, the first COVID-19 patient died. So far (updated to April 10, 2020), a total of 582 people have been infected in Lebanon, 29 of them severely. A total of 19 people have died of COVID-19 and 67 recovered. There were no reports of patients among the Palestinians living in the refugee camps. However, it should be taken into account that there may be such cases which were not detected.

News of Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (April 7 – 21, 2020)

The Gaza Strip, Judea and Samaria have been relatively quiet because of the COVID-19 crisis. In interviews for Palestinian Prisoners Day senior Hamas figures continue sending signals to Israel about their readiness to hold negotiations for an exchange of prisoners. The PA and Hamas are focusing most of their attention on the COVID-19 crisis. In the meantime the PA continues its smear campaign, accusing Israel of [allegedly deliberately] spreading COVID-19 to attack the national strength and health of the Palestinians.
