News of Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (March 6– March 12, 2019)

This past week the Palestinians continued to demonstrate a high level of violence at the "return march" and the days afterwards. In the meantime, Egypt continued its efforts to bring calm and to formulate an arrangement acceptable to Israel and Hamas. Hamas and the other organizations are planning a variety of activities for Saturday, March 30, 2019 (the first anniversary of the "return marches"). Popular terrorism continues in Judea and Samaria. The Palestinian media reported that Mahmoud Abbas appointed Dr. Muhammad Ashtiya, a member of Fatah's Central Committee, as the new Palestinian prime minister.

Palestinian Violence and Terrorism Against Israel, 2018: Data, Nature and Trends

The ITIC's annual study indicates that in 2018 there were two main trends prominent in Palestinian violence and terrorism: in the Gaza Strip there was a sharp increase in the level of violence and terrorism, after about three and a half years of relative quiet after Operation Protective Edge.

News of Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (January 16 – 22, 2019)

This past week there was a relatively low level of violence at the "return march" (about 14,000 participants). This past week a stabbing attack was prevented near an IDF check post south of Nablus. On February 3, 2019, an American law will go into effect making any recipient of American aid subject to the jurisdiction of its courts.

Examination of the list of fatalities in the “return marches” reveals that most of them are operatives of terrorist organizations, about half of whom affiliated with Hamas

The events of the “return marches” in the Gaza Strip have continued for 42 weeks. In most cases, these events are characterized by a high level of violence, resulting in casualties among the rioters, mainly among those in the front line confronting the IDF troops. According to the ITIC's examination, based on reports of the Gaza Strip Ministry of Health in combination with other sources, since the beginning of the “return marches” on March 30, 2018, a total of 187 Palestinians were killed in those events.

This past week there was an increase in the level of violence from the Gaza Strip. The increase in tension on the ground was accompanied by Hamas complaints about the freezing of the third payment of money from Qatar and threats that if the funds did not reach the Gaza Strip by the end of the week they would gradually return to activity on the Israel border. The Palestinian Authority Continues to Encourage Terrorism: A mourning tent opened in the Palestinian embassy in Saudi Arabia for a terrorist who murdered two Israelis in the Barkan industrial zone

Basem al-Agha, the PA ambassador to Saudi Arabia, opened a mourning tent in the PA embassy building in Riyadh for Ashraf al-Na'alwa, the terrorist who carried out a shooting attack in the Barkan industrial zone, murdering two Israelis (on October 7, 2018). Al-Na'alwa, who escaped after the terrorist attack, died in an exchange of fire with Israeli security forces after a search for him that lasted nine weeks.
