News of Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (August 8 – 14, 2018)

This past week events focused on the fifth round of escalation between Hamas and the IDF, during which Hamas and the other terrorist organizations in the Gaza Strip launched approximately 180 rocket and mortar shells. The fifth round of escalation and the "return march," which was held as usual on Friday, clearly illustrated Hamas' determination to continue its policy of controlled violence, implemented since March 30, 2018.

Spotlight on Global Jihad (July 26 – August 1, 2018)

On July 31, 2018, the Syrian army almost completed its takeover of the Yarmouk Basin from ISIS. At the same time, the Syrian Army completed its takeover of the area of Quneitra. Syrian soldiers entered the old city of Quneitra and raised the Syrian flag (a “victory picture”). In order to ease the pressure exerted on it in the Yarmouk Basin, ISIS carried out a combined attack against the Druze civilian population in the city of As-Suwayda and several villages in its vicinity.

News of Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (July 25-31, 2018)

This past week terrorist events focused on the stabbing attack in the community of Adam (near Ramallah). In the Gaza Strip snipers again shot at an IDF force, wounding an officer. The Friday July 27 "return march" was attended by about 7,000 Gazans. Attempts continued to reach an agreement to stabilize the ceasefire and prevent the situation from deteriorating, with Nikolay Mladenov, the UN envoy to the Middle East, and Egypt both holding rounds of talks with Hamas.

The Syrian army is completing its takeover of the Syrian Golan Heights while establishing its presence along the border with Israel. Most of the areas under the control of the rebel organizations fell into the hands of the Syrian army and the forces supporting it, without significant fighting but rather through surrender agreements (so-called reconciliation agreements) involving the Russians

Since the ceasefire achieved at the end of the fourth round of escalation the situation on the ground has been relatively calm. One manifestation of the calm has been a significant drop in the scope of arson terrorism, which led to the partial reopening of the Kerem Shalom. Spotlight on Global Jihad (July 12-18, 2018)

The Syrian army continues to record achievements in the campaign to take over the south of the country. This week, the Syrian army mounted an offensive against the rebel strongholds east and southeast of Quneitra. In addition to the fighting, diplomatic talks were held, including the issue of the presence of the Iranians and the Shiite forces handled by them (the Netanyahu-Putin meeting, the Trump-Putin meeting).
