News of Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (November 22-28, 2017)

This past week there was a stabbing attack in the southern Israeli city of Arad. On November 30, 2017, in an exceptional attack, between ten and twelve mortar shells were fired at an IDF post and IDF soldiers north of the Gaza Strip. Difficulties continue in implementing the internal Palestinian reconciliation. In light of reports in the media that the president of the United States is planning to declare recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and relocate the American embassy, the PA initiated a campaign to exert pressure on the Americans.

Spotlight on Global Jihad (November 23-29, 2017)

The main event of the week was a combined mass-killing attack carried out by ISIS in a Sufi mosque in the village of Al-Rawdah, some 45 km west of Al-Arish. In the ITIC’s assessment, ISIS’s Sinai Province and its other provinces abroad are highly motivated to carry out mass-killing attacks at the present time.

On November 24, 2017, there was a combined mass-killing attack at a mosque in the village of al-Rawda, near the town of Bir al-Abd (about 45 kilometers – 28 miles – west of El-Arish).

ISIS Denies Responsibility for Deadly Attack in Sinai Peninsula

On November 26, 2017, ISIS's al-Haq News Agency issued a three-minute video in English in which it claimed ISIS's Sinai Province denied all connection to the attack on the Sufi mosque in the northern Sinai Peninsula.

Spotlight on Global Jihad (October 26 – November 1, 2017)

A ramming attack was carried out this week in New York City (Lower Manhattan) on a bicycle path, by means of a rented pickup truck. In Syria and Iraq, Syrian and Iraqi forces are advancing in the Euphrates Valley in order to take over the last remaining “core areas” along the Euphrates River still under ISIS’s control, in the area between Rawa and Al-Qaim (Iraq) and Abu Kamal (Syria). In the ITIC’s assessment, the return of the foreign fighters to their home countries is expected to pose a serious security problem.

Spotlight on Global Jihad (October 19-25, 2017)

The predominantly Kurdish SDF officially announced this week that the city of Al-Raqqah had been fully liberated. The United States and the Kurds are trying to enlist the Saudis to assist in the rebuilding of Al-Raqqah. This week, around 200 ISIS operatives were evacuated from the town of Al-Qaryatayn, southeast of Homs.
