The Albukamal border crossing is of major importance to Iran since a route promoting Iran’s strategic interests in Syria and Lebanon passes through it.

During the first half of June 2018, ISIS carried out several attacks against the city of Albukamal near the border between Syria and Iraq. The city and its surroundings are defended by forces of the Syrian army, supported by Shiite forces handled by Iranian officers of the Revolutionary Guards.

Arson Terrorism: A new method devised by Hamas during the “return marches” to attack the communities near the Gaza Strip and disrupt their daily lives

The phenomenon of "arson terrorism" using kites, which began on a small scale during the third week of the violent "return marches," has gathered momentum during the past few weeks, led by Hamas. In addition to incendiary kites, the use of helium balloons with flammable substances attached began, and later kites and balloons with IEDs attached.

Palestinian popular terrorism in Judea and Samaria declined during the first half of 2018, despite both the relocation of the American embassy to Jerusalem and Hamas’ continuous inciting Palestinians to join the violent “return marches”

Why did Hamas not succeed in duplicating the marches, with their attendant violence and terrorism, in Judea and Samaria? Why is the populace in Judea and Samaria apparently relatively apathetic, without masses of Palestinians demonstrating in support of the Gaza Strip, where events led to such a large number of casualties? Why has the relocation of the American embassy not led to mass popular protest in Jerusalem and throughout Judea and Samaria? Why have the events in Judea, Samaria and Jerusalem not motivated young Palestinians to carry out attacks and give new momentum to popular terrorism?

The “great return march:” Demonstrations and riots, Friday, June 8, 2018

The events of Friday, June 8, 2018, to mark Global Quds Day (initiated every year by Iran) and Naksa Day, continued with violence and riots encouraged by Hamas. The violence included gunfire, throwing IEDs, flying incendiary kites, and flying kites and balloons with IEDs attached to their tails. More than 10,000 Gazans participated in the Friday events, similar to the previous week, but far fewer than Hamas had expected.

The Struggle for the Nature of Education in East Jerusalem: The Palestinian Authority (PA) recently announced an increase in its activity to reinforce Palestinian nationalist education in east Jerusalem

The PA recently announced it would intensify its activity in the education system in east Jerusalem schools. The announcement came in response to reports in the Israeli media that the Israeli government was going to invest hundreds of millions of shekels in education in east Jerusalem to encourage a transition to the Israeli curriculum. Support for the PA education system in east Jerusalem is represented by the PA as "a national program," and notes an effort must be made to advance it to cope with Israeli activity.

Inclusion of minors in military activity against the IDF: Saadi Abu Salah, a 16-year-old boy who died when he was sent by Hamas to cut the border fence, belonged to the clan in Beit Hanoun whose members were involved in intensive terrorist activity, some of them as minors (Update to previous publication by the ITIC)

On May 14, 2018, at the height of the riots held during the “Great Return March,” Saadi Abu Salah, a 16-year-old affiliated with Hamas, was killed. Despite his young age, the youth was sent by Hamas to the front line of rioters near the border fence, together with a group of boys known as the “tire and fence-cutting unit.” These youths, including Saadi Abu Salah, were sent by Hamas to cut the border fence, in preparation for penetrating into Israeli territory, putting their lives at risk.
