Issa Khalil Shawkah died on July 14, 1997, in a “work accident” in an apartment in Bethlehem which served as a Hamas laboratory for the manufacture of explosive devices. He was a Hamas operative as well as one of the top aides of Adel Awadallah, head of the Hamas military infrastructure in the PA-administered West Bank until his death at the hands of Israeli security forces.
