    Appendix B

Postcards commemorating Issa Khalil Shawkah, Hamas terrorist (see below), part of the “educational material” produced by the Islamic Student Movement, which were also found by Israeli soldiers. Such postcards also serve to glorify the names of Palestinian “martyrs” and to disseminate messages to school children preaching self-sacrifice and the heroic death in a suicide attack (shahadah or istishhad) against Israel.

Hamas postcard

The inscription above the picture reads: “There is nothing more certain other than that Glory [sic] bows down before [the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas], and only before them.” The captions to the left and right read: “You were the first to die the holy death of a martyr. You shall always remain the first in the heart of the [Palestinian] people.”

Palestinian Islamic Jihad postcard

Below are translations of some of the rhymed Arabic inscriptions appearing on the postcard bearing the picture of Issa Khalil Shawkah, a Hamas terrorist highly praised by the “sister” organization, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad:

“Oh, Mother, the time for leaving [this world] is quickly approaching.”
“Oh, Mother, do not speak of me should I fall and lie dead on the ground.”

“Go and prepare for me my shroud, you must not hesitate.”
“For death does not frighten me, as my heart’s most fervent wish is to die the death of a holy martyr for the sake of Allah (al-Istishhad).”
