Examples of anti-Semitism in institutions currently belonging to the Palestinian Authority

Inculcating hatred of Israel in the Palestinian educational system through the use of anti-Semitic symbols:
A picture from an exhibition of drawings done by students at the Hajah Rushdah girls schools in the Beit Ain Alma refugee camp in Nablus (August 18, 2004).
The snake has been a classic anti-Semitic symbol since the 19 th century but gained popularity
at the beginning of the 20 th when The Protocols of the Elders of Zion were published.

Another anti-Semitic sermon delivered by sheikh Ibrahim Mudeiras
“…Judgment Day will only arrive when the Muslims have fought the Jews and killed them” (Palestinian TV, live broadcast, September 10, 2004).

1. Sheikh Ibrahim Mudeiras , a young cleric identified with Hamas, has been prominent during the past few years for his anti-Semitic attacks on the Jewish people (in addition to his poisonous sermons against Israel and the United States). He customarily delivers his seroms in the Zaid Bin Sultan A’al Nahyan mosque in Gaza. His anti-Semitic Friday sermons are often broadcast live by Palestinian television, which is supervised by the Palestinian Authority (PA).
2. The following are quotations from his September 10, 2004 sermon:
  a. “…There will be neither security nor tranquillity on the face of the earth until a just solution has been found for the Palestinian problem. In the words of the prophet Muhammad, judgment day will not arrive until the Muslims have fought the Jews and killed them…
  b. “Palestinian children taunt Sharon and the Zionist government and call out to him: ‘let your soldiers build planes, let them stay in their tanks and we will fight them when they are in their tanks…’ That is what the Palestinian children call out when they march towards the tanks. They throw stones at them and frighten [the soldiers], cowards who are hiding inside their tanks.
  c. “In the words of the prophet: ‘The Jews hid behind the rocks and the trees and then the rocks and the trees said to the Muslims, who did God’s work: There are Jews behind us, come and kill them!” But what is the meaning of such hatred? The reason is that there is no one in the world who loves the Jews, not humans, not stones and not trees, because they destroy everything and everyone wants to take vengeance on the Jews, to take vengeance on those pigs. And they day will come when we are victorious over them.’”
3. It should be noted that the mosques, whose main purpose is to serve as spiritual centers devoted to prayer, are, for Palestinian society, one of the central factors in the forging of the armed insurrection against Israel, and serve as hothouses for preparing terrorists. They are also centers for disseminating anti-Semitic propaganda whose roots lie in Islam (according to the interpretation of radical Islamists). Many of the mosques are theoretically under the jurisdiction of the PA’s Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs, but in actual fact they are under Hamas influence, and the PA does nothing to curb their activities. In addition, the PA even permits sheikh Ibrahim Mudeiras’ anti-Semitic sermons to be broadcast live on Palestinian TV, which is also under PA supervision.

Anti-Semitic symbols in a display of drawings at a high school under the supervision of the PA Ministry of Education

Overview
4. The following is a description of three drawings from a display in the Hajah Rushdah girls’ high school in the Beit Ain Alma refugee camp in Nablus. The school belongs to the Palestinian Authority. The drawings were done by students in the 8 th,
9 th, 10 th and 11 th grades. The theme of the exhibition was a protest against the anti-terrorist security fence being built by Israel, and included drawings with anti-Semitic symbols. The drawings were found during an Israeli army operation on August 18, 2004.
5. The drawings shown here contain either a snake or an octopus, both classic European anti-Semitic symbols since the early 19 th century. They gained popularity when The Protocols of the Elders of Zion were published at the beginning of the 20 th century. The snake and octopus as Jewish symbols appear in many cartoons and illustrations in books and magazines in the Arab and Islamic world. They have been found in the past in the PA-administered territories on posters, handouts, books and drawings in PA institutions and apparatus, and in those of Hamas as well.

The Jewish snake (wearing a hat made out of the American flag) threatening to swallow the mosques on the Temple Mount and all Palestine. The drawing was done by Ghadam Hijawi, a student in the 9th grade.
