Palestinian Reactions to the Wave of Fires in Israel (Updated to November 30, 2016)

For six days, between November 22 and 27, 2016, raging fires spread throughout Israel and the districts of Judea and Benjamin. According to Israeli police reports, more than 90 fires broke out. Prominent among them were fires along the Carmel mountain ridge (Haifa and Zichron Ya'akov) and a series of fires in the Judean mountains.

This past week there were two major attacks of Palestinian popular terrorism: Fires raged throughout Israel and the Benjamin and Judea districts for six days, causing substantial property damage and destroying extensive wooded areas. The Palestinian Authority (PA) sent eight fire engines and 41 firemen to help put out the blazes. According to initial and partial information, only a minority of the fires were caused by arson.

This past week Palestinian popular terrorism continued, including an attempted stabbing attack at the Qalandia crossing (north of Jerusalem). A Palestinian terrorist tried to stab a security guard and struggled with him. He was shot and killed. Palestinians continued throwing stones at Israeli vehicles and at the Israeli security forces. The Hamas security forces detained Abdallah al-Ashqar, a senior Salafi jihadist terrorist operative in the Gaza Strip and in ISIS's Sinai Province.

Popular terrorism continues, this past week manifested by an attempted stabbing attack at the Hawwara Junction near Nablus. Stones were thrown at Israeli cars and buses in Judea and Samaria. Two Israelis were wounded. Preparations are being made for the seventh Fatah conference, scheduled to take place on November 29, 2016.

Popular terrorism attacks continue. This past week there was an attempted stabbing attack at a bus stop near Ofra, northeast of Ramallah. A bombing attack of an IDF post in Hebron was prevented by the Palestinian Authority (PA) security forces. Hamas and other terrorist organizations strongly criticized the PA security forces for preventing the attack. The 99th anniversary of the Balfour Declaration was exploited by Hamas and the PA for strong condemnation.
