Popular terrorism attacks continue in Judea and Samaria and trickle into Israel. Prominent this past week was a combined shooting and stabbing attack at the entrance to a market in Petah Tikva, in the center of the country. Four rockets were fired at Eilat, Israel's southernmost city, from the Sinai Peninsula. They were launched by operatives of ISIS's Sinai Province.. In the Gaza Strip Yahya Sinwar, a senior operative in Hamas' Izz al-Din Qassam Brigades, its military-terrorist wing, was elected as the organization's leader in the Gaza Strip.

This past week popular terrorism attacks in Judea and Samaria continued. A rocket was fired from the Gaza Strip into the western Negev. The Israeli security forces recently exposed a Hamas terrorist network in the Hebron region, handled by Hamas terrorist operatives in the Gaza Strip.

The wave of popular terrorism waned in April. After April, the average monthly distribution was greater than in previous years.

This past week there was an rise in popular terrorism. Six terrorist attacks were carried out or attempted in various locations in Judea and Samaria. Worthy of note is the increase in shooting attacks, a particularly lethal form of terrorist attack which has been on the rise since 2016.

On January 24, 2017, there was a shooting incident at a roadblock near the community of Ofra, carried out using an improvised weapon. In view of the possible relocation of the United States embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, senior Palestinian Authority (PA) figures continue their campaign of threats. Some of them have tried to make it a religious issue, courting the support of the Arab and Islamic countries and international institutions.

The electricity crisis in the Gaza Strip brought masses of protesters into the streets (one held in the Jabalia refugee camp had thousands of demonstrators). The crisis illustrates Hamas' difficulty in coping with the challenges of governance in the Gaza Strip. Senior Palestinian figures have initiated a campaign threatening mainly the United States, in the wake of the possibility that America will relocate its embassy to Jerusalem.
