News of the Israeli-Palestinian Confrontation April 29-May 6, 2008

Issued on: 06/05/2008 Type: Article

The main event of this past week was the agreement reached in principle between Egypt and Hamas on April 25 about a progressively implemented lull (“Gaza first”) in the military confrontation between Hamas and Israel in the Gaza Strip. Hamas has accompanied the deliberations about the lull with threats to Israel and a media campaign of anti-Israeli incitement in preparation for the 60th anniversary of the founding of the State of Israel (called the nakba, “catastrophe,” by the Palestinians). At the same time, for the third consecutive week there has been a relatively high level of rocket fire targeting western Negev towns and villages.
