No progress was made this past week in the contacts for the Egyptian initiative regarding a lull in the fighting. Hamas continues to threaten an escalation of terrorism and manipulating civilians at the crossings if its demands for the lull are not met. On the ground rocket and intensive mortar shell fire continued, wounding five Israelis.
